Happy spring! The year is already moving along quickly, and PRSA-NCC continues to make strides in professional development and programming as we head into the early summer season. Our chapter has seven events listed for May on the website, while most chapters are happy to list one or two events! These events include a Deep-Dive Seminar for APR, a Conquering Facebook Paid Advertising program, a webinar on How to Win a Thoth Award, a How Public Relations Delivers Business Value program and a Breakfast Breakthrough on Crisis Management and the Marketplace, as well as others. All of the chapter volunteers are actively working in their areas to provide members and non-members with the best educational and networking opportunities possible. I commend them all for their great work!
As you go forward this spring in the ever-changing media landscape, I encourage you to think strategically about your individual professional development and your company’s or organization’s strategic development. Make sure you are up to date with current statistics, analytics and educational information that you can use to work strategically for yourself and your organization. Take advantage of everything PRSA-NCC has to offer.
This year the board has added new positions including a Chapter Ethics Officer and Board Committee Chair and Board Director liaison for the Diversity Committee, which will be focused on new information and program offerings for the chapter. These topics are important to the practice of PR, and our chapter and many other chapters are sponsoring programs based on the PRSA Code of Ethics and workshops on diversity and inclusion.
Also, the Thoth Awards is open for entries in the electronic online awards section at www.prsa-ncc.org/thoth_awards. This year’s Thoth Awards will be on October 12, 2017 so be sure to put a placeholder in your calendar to attend. And bring a friend to the Thoth Awards, or to another professional development or networking event you attend. They might be interested in membership in the largest PRSA chapter in the U.S.! If you’d like more information on membership, contact Membership Committee co-chairs, Ashley Morris at email@example.com, or Josh Gordon at firstname.lastname@example.org.
As always, I look forward to meeting all of you at an upcoming PRSA-NCC event!
Laura Bynum, M.A.
